Watch: A Scary Reminder to Follow Trail Etiquette Around Bighorn Sheep

A group of hikers made the right decision by stepping to the side of a trail when two bighorn sheep were following them.

According to the Instagram post from @postcardsfromcarrie, the group was hiking on the Highline Trail. The popular hike follows the Continental Divide with spectacular views of the park.

Do you know that feeling when you’re struggling with 2,000 feet of elevation gain and a trail runner comes flying up behind you? The video is like that but with a little more panic.

The hikers climb onto nearby rocks after noticing the sheep behind them on the narrow trail. That’s all the bighorn sheep need to step off the brakes and rip down the path.

Like other large mammals in National Parks, the NPS recommends visitors give bighorn sheep at least 25 yards of space.
